Sister Study Volunteers
PEARL DAVIS

Pearl Davis
The Sister Study is proud to announce that Pearl Davis from Metropolis, Illinois is our featured volunteer. Pearl has been a dedicated, hardworking and inspirational volunteer for the Sister Study since December 2006. Pearl’s sister, Carrie, developed breast cancer in 2004. Carrie insisted that Pearl and their other sister, Edith, get pap smears and mammograms immediately. Pearl was also diagnosed with breast cancer, but luckily because of Carrie’s insistence on her sisters getting exams, the cancer was in a stage that responded to treatments of radiation and chemotherapy. Sadly, Carrie’s cancer was too far advanced and she died. Pearl saw Carrie before she died, and told her, “I was going to be okay. Carrie wasn’t talking at this point, but she made a “sigh” type sound to let me know that she heard me. I thanked her for what she had done for me... for saving my life.”
Pearl says, “After Carrie’s death, I was introduced to the Sister Study through Edith, who is a participant. I became a volunteer to help get the word out in my area about the study because I believe all women need to do what they can to be a part of the cancer solution. It has been a joy meeting new people and many of them have been receptive to the idea of helping the Sister Study in any way they can.”
Pearl calls the Sister Study Recruitment Team every month to order more materials to take to churches and places all over her community. She also ventures into Kentucky to let women there know about the study. She is very active in her local Relay For Life. Pearl is truly a “Pearl” and a great volunteer.
