Sara and Denni (text version)

My Sister Story by Denni P.

Slide of Sara and Denni as children

Not even two years apart, I relished the attention that Sara gave me from the very beginning. She gave me my name, Denni, because she couldn't say "Nancy" or "Dennis." She was always there taking care of me.

Our mother thought it was adorable to dress us alike, and that even included poodle skirts! We were quite the pair...

As we grew older, the outfits changed a bit, but there was still no denying that we were SISTERS in our matching Easter bonnets!

Family photo of 3 children

Our family unit was strong, and all three children very close.

Sara was there for me at my wedding...

And we had so much fun through the years as we watched our own families grow.

All of us were blown away in 1997 when Sara was diagnosed with breast cancer. I promised Sara that it was my turn now to be there for her...

But I continued to feel so helpless and unable to do anything that could make a difference!

Sara began working for the Sister Study in 2001. When she told me about this important breast cancer research study, I knew this was something I would participate in because I wanted to help find answers to this puzzling and troubling disease. I am happy to be part of this amazing study and grateful for the opportunity to work for the eradication of this disease.
